Taranaki Community Rugby Trust

About

The Taranaki Community Rugby Trust is a registered charity that exists solely to cater for the non-professional game within Taranaki and aims to see as many young people as possible enjoying the sport for years to come.

Our Purpose and Mission

The TCRT exists for the purpose of promoting community rugby for the beneficial objectives of influencing health, welfare and safety into the sporting and social fabric of the Taranaki community at large, with a focus on helping to keep Taranaki kids fit and active.

In order to do this the TCRT is working towards distributing $100,000 per year to relevant community groups and organisations. Visit ‘What We Do’ to find out how TCRT makes its distributions.

How do we do it?

With the advent of professional rugby, provincial unions had to shift more of their focus and resources into the game to be competitive, which meant that clubs, schools, age grade teams and rising stars were unlikely to get the same level of funding they once had. We believe the strength of community rugby is vital to growing and developing the game for future generations. It soon became clear to us that if we wanted community rugby to remain strong, then we had to find new ways to fund it.

So in 2008 the TCRT established a lease dairy farm in South Taranaki to help generate funds to support the Trust. In 2018, the TCRT entered into two new lease arrangements which now extends the farm business to milking a total of 823 cows across both Dairy farms in South Taranaki with a further 177 young heifers off farm grazing including 50% of those on our own leased dry stock/grazing property in Inglewood.
